Terms of use

Effective October 27, 2026

These terms apply when you use AskRobots Search at search.askrobots.com, including its pages, the directory and the API. By using it you agree to them. They are written to be read; if something is unclear, ask us.

1. Who we are

"AskRobots", "we" and "us" mean AskRobots Search, run by Daniel Quellhorst, doing business as AskRobots.com, 4236 Feagan St, Houston, TX 77007, United States (dan@askrobots.com).

2. The service

AskRobots is a free, independent search index of the public web, with a topic directory, page facts and related tools. It is young and changing: features may be added, changed or removed, and the service may be unavailable at times. We may stop offering all or part of it.

3. Results are other people's content

Results link to websites we don't own or control. We don't endorse them, and we aren't responsible for what they contain or do. Titles, snippets, icons and screenshots come from those sites. Labels such as quality scores, topics, page types, "In short" summaries and related searches are made automatically, some of them by AI, and can be wrong. Check anything important at the source.

4. Fair use

Use AskRobots as a person would, or through the API within its limits. Please don't:

  • scrape results or directory pages with automated tools, or use the service to build a competing index or dataset;
  • send so many requests that it slows the service for others, or work around rate limits, blocks or other protections;
  • probe or attack the service's security without our written permission (security reports are welcome: see Contact);
  • try to manipulate rankings: fake votes, clicks, reports or submissions, link schemes aimed at our index, or anything automated that pretends to be people;
  • submit pages you know are illegal, malicious or not public;
  • pretend to be our crawler or to speak for AskRobots.

We may block traffic, networks or submissions that break these rules.

5. What you send us

When you vote on a result, add a page, report a result or write to us, you let us use that information to run and improve the service, as described in the privacy policy. Only submit pages that are public and that you are entitled to point us to.

6. Our content

The design, code, directory, descriptions and labels we create are ours. You're welcome to link to any AskRobots page and share results. Copying large parts of the index or the directory needs our permission.

7. Copyright and takedown notices

We respect copyright and respond to notices under the U.S. Digital Millennium Copyright Act (17 U.S.C. § 512). If you believe a result, snippet, icon or screenshot on AskRobots infringes your copyright, send a notice to our designated agent:

Daniel Quellhorst, Copyright Agent, AskRobots Search
4236 Feagan St
Houston, TX 77007
United States
dan@askrobots.com

Include:

  1. the copyrighted work you believe is infringed;
  2. the material on AskRobots you want removed, with its address (for a result, the search address and the result's address);
  3. your name, postal address, telephone number and email address;
  4. a statement that you believe in good faith that the use is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent or the law;
  5. a statement that the information in your notice is accurate and, under penalty of perjury, that you are the copyright owner or authorized to act for the owner;
  6. your physical or electronic signature.

If we remove material because of a notice and you believe that was a mistake, you can send a counter-notice to the same address. Remember that our results only point to pages on other sites: to remove the page itself, contact the site that publishes it. Site owners can also keep our crawler out with robots.txt (how).

8. Privacy

Our privacy policy explains what we record and why. It is part of these terms.

9. No warranty

AskRobots is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement. We don't promise that results are complete, correct, current or safe, or that the service will be uninterrupted or error-free.

10. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, AskRobots and its operator are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data or goodwill, arising from your use of the service or of any site it links to. Our total liability for any claim about the service is limited to fifty U.S. dollars (US$50). Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not all apply to you.

11. Your responsibility

If you misuse the service or break these terms and that leads to a claim against us, you agree to cover our reasonable costs of dealing with it, including legal fees.

12. Changes

We may update these terms. The new version will be posted here with a new date; for important changes we'll also put a notice on the home page. If you keep using AskRobots after a change, the new terms apply.

13. Law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas and of the United States, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute will be handled by the state or federal courts located in Harris County, Texas, and you and we agree to their jurisdiction. If part of these terms can't be enforced, the rest still applies.
